Marilyn Kirk Obituary

A Reflection of Life

 

Marilyn Melvin Wilkerson Kirk was born on March 27, 1948, Bladen County, North Carolina in the Community known as “Trunbull”, to the late Elbert Melvin and Edith Mae Evans-Melvin. She was the identical twin to Carolyn Melvin McEachern.

Marilyn attended Bladen County Schools and when her family relocated to Fayetteville, North Carolina she attended and graduated from Anne Chesnutt High School. Marilyn spiritual journey began at Dove Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. When her family relocated she united with Eureka Chapel Baptist Church under her grandfather the late Rev. Jacob B. Evans.

Marilyn met a young soldier name Norman Wilkerson who later would become her husband and the beginning of her family. In later years she would remarry to her best friend and soul mate Jerry Kirk.

Marilyn worked various jobs throughout her life. Her passion was in Childcare where she worked for several years at the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church Day Care Center and Abundant Life Child Day Care Center.

Marilyn was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, great[1]grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. She lived life her way and lived life to the fullest. She was kindhearted and loving. She will be missed greatly.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jerry Kirk.

She leaves to cherish her memories: five children, Acie Melvin (Dionne) of Franklinton, NC, Beverly Wilkerson of Columbia, SC, Norman Wilkerson III (Michelle) of Powder Springs, GA, Terrance (Chilquaya) of Raeford, NC and James (Kimberly) Wilkerson of Grovetown, GA; three sisters, Mae Lois Melvin of Newburgh, NY, Jossie Whitted of Fayetteville, NC and Carolyn McEachern of Spring Lake, NC; one brother, James Smith (Bernice) of Autryville, NC; mother-in-law, Elousie Flagg of Fayetteville, NC; two sisters-in-law, Ann Howard (James) of Fayetteville, NC and Donnie Kirk of Stedman, NC; 17 grandchildren,Tiffany Wilkerson, Jamaca Wilkerson, Paris Melvin, Sydney Melvin, Jalen Robinson, Adriana Wilkerson, James Wilkerson II, Mia Sale Wilkerson, Melia Sandra Wilkerson, Ka’Myah Baynham, Jo’Beyond Walker, Jah’Kell Walker, Ji’Real Walker, Loyalty Marilyn Wilkerson, Freddie Buddie, Devon Buddie and Nazira Buddie; 11 great grandchildren; Treyvonn Wilkerson, Mahagony Clark, Alsebre Boone, Ayaan Guerrant, Ava Melvin, Zariyah Byrd, Aiden Davis, London Jackson, Cameron Jackson, Phoenix A’mel Williams and Chandler Mason.
