Life Story for Edith Whitted King-Avery
2 Timothy 4: 6-8
For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

On Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, in the early hours of the morning, Angels were dispensed to Darlene''s bedside and her soul was carried from labor to reward. She was born Sept. 1, 1966, in Fayetteville to Carl Edward Whitted and Jossie Patricia Melvin-Whitted.
Edith Darlene Whitted King-Avery was a 1985 graduate of Westover Senior High School in Cumberland County. She matriculated at Fayetteville Technical Community College. The restaurant industry became a major part of her career, where she held various management positions. Her managerial skills and people skills contributed greatly to her success. Darlene was very crafty with her hands and enjoyed knitting. She also had a love for dolphins and enjoyed collecting dolphin figurines, which could be seen displayed throughout her home.
"May the Work I''ve Done Speak for me!"
At an early age, Darlene confessed Christ and united with Eureka Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where her spiritual foundation and nurturing were received. Darlene had a beautiful voice and used it to glorify the Lord at every opportunity made available to her. She was very active in her church until her death. She carried on the tradition that her late grandmother, Edith Mae Evans-Melvin, started over 50 years ago, The Eureka Chapel Junior Choir. She had a relationship with Christ, understood and was raised to believe "that through Christ all things are possible." When called upon to work, she never hesitated. Though she was outspoken and very strong-willed, Darlene had a beautiful smile.
Darlene was united in holy matrimony to Thomas L. King. To this union, her greatest accomplishments in life can be seen through her children: Francesca, Bryant, Brittany and Jossie. Her greatest joy in life was experienced through her grandchildren, Farrah, Bryant and Caleb.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Elbert and Edith Mae Evans-Melvin; and, her paternal grandparents, Jonathan Idell Whitted and Beulah Mae Dunham-Johnson.
Her love for life will be forever cherished and remembered by her children: Francesca B. Whitted, Brittany C. King, Bryant T. King and Jossie D. King, all of Fayetteville; her beloved parents, Jossie P. Melvin-Whitted, and Carl E. Whitted of Fayetteville; three brothers, Carl E. Melvin (Odessa) of Waldorf, Md., Norman A. Whitted of Fayetteville and Anthony F. Whitted (Irish) of Clayton; two sisters, Tonya D. Whitted and Sharon Morrisey (Terry) of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Farrah C. Pettaway, Bryant J. King, and Caleb J. King of Fayetteville; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; and lifetime friends
